Summary: We’re going offline for a couple years, but we’ll be back!
Here’s the longer version:
Bowling For Truth was created in 2002 as a scene-by-scene deconstruction that broke down the misleading moments, factual falsehoods, and incorrect implications that were rife in the Michael Moore documentary Bowling For Columbine. It operated for several years continuing this mission regarding Moore’s subsequent film releases and as Moore stopped making films of prominence, so to did Bowling For Truth’s diligence wane. But Bowling For Truth was never meant to be about Michael Moore or even the ideas or ideology he or his films espouse, but rather it was a resource designed to fact-check false claims in entertaining packaging that were entering the public lexicon via well produced media.
Thus, in 2016, Bowling For Truths resources were diverted to a new non-profit project that sought to relaunch the site as a larger scoped fact checking service to include more kinds of media as it joined a family of other fact checking watchdogs with similar purposes and that is the current status of the site now: It is changing, but slowly. The reason for the speed is that, absent of generous financial backing by a wealthy donor who is deeply passionate about non-biased media fact checking – the process of structuring, staffing, registering, designing, and programming such a venture is relegated to our core team who must balance this passion-project with family, day jobs, and that whole “life” stuff. This grind is putting our relaunch timeline to a somewhat vague “next couple years”.
As the original Bowling For Truth was created by a comedian, its tone was more snarky than the new incarnation would go on to adopt and thus the original posts have been moved but will be made available in our new archives under the new system under the new relaunch.
The date for that relaunch? Developing… We suspect that a major aspect of what it requires will be ready by the second quarter of 2021, at which point the foundation of our necessities will be in place and ready to go and we will be able to, with good conscience, open donations to our parent organization that will fuel base level research and writing staff.
